NorthSouth GIS India: VIVID GIS VISUALIZATION WITH ROBUST 3D MAPPING

CIO Vendor Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are increasingly adding significant value to virtually every field of business. There is a growing understanding of GIS within enterprises and within various government initiatives around infrastructure, digital transformation, disaster management, effective governance and urban development, leading to an increased demand for integrated GIS data and associated web and mobile applications. In the last two decades, India has witnessed a huge potential in GIS data creation, updation, field sensor data integration, web and mobile based GIS solutions. Enterprises are on the lookout for solution providers that leverage such location based intelligence captured, stored and maintained (live, temporal and historical) to help them improve operational efficiency of an enterprise and discover business opportunities from the analysis of the data. However, in most cases, enterprises have been maintaining the geospatial data as Two Dimensional (2D) GIS data. 2D GIS analysis has its own set of limitations in certain situations such as noise prediction models, water flood models, geological models, air pollution models and the real estate market, to name a few.
Ahead of the learning curve in the GIS market and possessing a perfect understanding of the unique industry vertical requirements, Hyderabad based NorthSouth GIS India, with its team of qualified professionals, has designed and developed a proprietary 3D mapping engine to take GIS visualization and decision making to the next level. “Our 3D engine offers a unique differentiator in supporting 3D data integration, 3D GIS application and enabling AR/VR/MR visualization of terrain and 3D objects,” informs Dr. Srikanth Manthripragada, Director and CTO of NorthSouth GIS India.
Ensuring a Quicker Development Time
Carefully studying the market and understanding the business process, the team at NSGI completely understands that the Enterprise IT department encounters the challenge of developing an application to its business users at a rapid pace. The IT teams spend a fairly large amount of time building Web GIS applications or Mobile Applications from the ground-up. This in turn translates to an increased amount of development time, testing and deployment by end users. NSGI comes to the fore with its offering GeoCortex Essentials that has been engineered to assist clients to configure Web GIS application with Intuitive GUI and configurable workflows within couple of days and get the application deployed for production use. Moreover, implementing this solution does not demand any programming skills to develop a Web GIS solution. One can easily configure the application sans writing a single line of code. And most importantly, one can configure a multitude of solutions and deploy for use. “NorthSouth GIS India has the capability to play dual role of a GIS solution provider and a GIS system integrator depending on project type and scale. Our key strength is to build integrated GIS solutions with capability to interface with other disparate systems, providing analytical and visualization capabilities,” Geethanjali Doolapally, Business Analyst, NorthSouth GIS India.
Delivering End-to-end Solutions
A subsidiary of NSG Group that maintains a market presence of 33 years, NSGI also specializes in developing solutions based upon ESRI technology, a leading supplier of GIS software worldwide. Being an ISO 9001:2015 certified company, it caters to a large client base with its range of services which are Strategic GIS consulting, Business Requirement Analysis, Project Management, support, Maintenance and GIS Migration. Founded in 2007, the company’s core business areas are Municipalities, Marine GIS, Ministry of Environment, Ports and Utilities.
One of the most notable projects the company has worked on is the Jharkhand application where the team designed a GIS solution as one of the core modules that was made to improve the efficiency of the overall business processes of the Utility. It will help Utility to plan, estimate, analyze network and to reduce commercial as well as technical Electrical Losses.
A 360 Degree Approach
When it comes to Ports, it has its own process for managing and leasing space, assets, security, regulations and international standards in operations. Carving a niche for itself in this domain, the team has built a Ports GIS solution. It offers a dashboard that seamlessly displays the activities of the port ecosystem whether it is land management, logistics, document management, incident management, lease and asset management.
Staying abreast of trending technologies, the team upgraded the solution from its 2D Port solution to a 3D based real-time asset tracking solution.
Such areas of operation possess disparate systems that need collation of data from the GPS, Videos and Sensor data. The system integrates all the information through a set of web services thereby helping Ports Operation managers monitor the various activities of terminal operations live and take informed decision on vehicle and container movement, Fuel Level, Quay & RTG Cranes positioning, number of lifts to be done in hour, number of containers to be loaded/unloaded from vessel and so on.
Supplying a holistic overview of port terminal operation on a 3D map with dashboard and analytics in a more simplified manner, the solution is tightly integrated with the data from a gamut of systems like Real-Time Location Services, Container Management, Live Video Feeds, In-Vehicle Phone call and IoT Sensors. With an expansive reach not only in India but also across the Middle East, Dr. Srikanth recounts, “Recently, we had implemented 3D GIS solution for a port terminal operations in Middle East as a real time business scenario. The client monitors the terminal vehicles in 3D mode and tracks jobs assigned to the vehicles and measures KPIs. The solution not only brought better real world 3D visualization effect but also improved the port operational efficiency as systems calculate number of container and type of containers to be loaded/ unloaded in sequence using Z values. This reduced demurrage and greatly enhanced efficiency in managing container yard's limited space.” The team is currently exploring the avenue and has invested its resources in developing a similar solution for Airports as well.
Improved GIS-based Workflow Process for Government Departments
Leveraging its domain expertise, team skill set and business acumen, NSG has evolved many of its solutions for urban planning and E-governance into products that have led to the company’s ability to proffer a competitive edge on cost and better turnaround time for implementations as compared to other service providers in the market. Government departments strive to strike a balance in GIS based work flow automations while implementing E-Government solutions. This can be achieved with the simplification of the entire process within the GIS enterprise solution where the data is captured, processed and reported without any de-duplication of data throughout the entire project lifecycle. Additionally, any corrections made, should reflect on the dashboards of all the stakeholders involved. Playing a key role in this segment, NSGI has mapped out a GIS-based workflow process for automating the Works Management of any department in a State Government. “We have designed and developed a ‘GIS based Workflow Management System’ which can be customized to any department with minimum coding. NSGI has implemented this solution for one of the state governments in India for more than a half-dozen departments and this requirement is growing in every state government,” reveals Dr. Srikanth.
All in all, the GIS solutions and services extended by NSGI, to its diverse set of renowned clientele whether web or mobile, are cross platform and device agnostic that function in online and offline mode. This feature enables the field staff to keep pace in the unlikely event of any emergency situation. Dr. Srikanth adds, “Our clients derive huge benefit from our capability to build cross platform GIS solution with mobility. Inbuilt alert and push notifications ensure that the exceptions are communicated to the field teams via the connected devices for a quick response.”
